Sam van Strien
Sam van Strien (b. Delft, the Netherlands, 1992) received his MFA in Painting & Drawing from Ohio State University (2017) and his BA in Fine Art from Central Saint Martins (2014). He has exhibited in the US and Europe, with exhibitions at The Stone Space, London (Solo exhibition, 2020), Yards Project Space, Cleveland, Ohio (Group exhibition, 2018), Long Beach Island Foundation of the Arts & Sciences, New Jersey (Group exhibition, 2017, selected by Jane Panetta, Associate Curator of the Whitney Museum of American Art), and the Supreme Court of the Netherlands, The Hague (2015).
Sam van Strien has undertaken residencies at PADA Studios in Lisbon, Portugal (2019), Buinho Creative Hub in Messejana, Portugal (2019) and USF Arts Centre in Bergen, Norway (2018). In 2021 he will be an artist-in-residence at the NARS Foundation in Brooklyn, New York with the support of a Netherland-America Foundation Cultural Grant. Previous awards include: the Sainsbury Scholarship for Painting & Sculpture at the British School at Rome (shortlist, 2018); the Fergus Scholarship Award (2017); the Alumni Grant for Graduate Research & Scholarship (2016); the Arts & Humanities Graduate Research Grants Program (2014 and 2015), and a Graduate Teaching Associate at Ohio State University (2014 – 2017). He currently lives and works in London, UK.
